Ink Illusions has spent the past year collaborating with Qualifi to develop one of the UK’s first fully regulated qualifications in Paramedical Tattooing for Skin Restoration and Camouflage.
This is not CPD.
This is a nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated qualification pathway on the RQF.
And for most learners, it’s delivered as a combined Level 4 + Level 5 programme – because we do not assume prior knowledge.
Why This Is Different
Until now, the only regulated way into paramedical tattooing required you to complete Level 4 Micropigmentation first – meaning brows, lips, eyeliner. Not everyone wants that.
Many professionals want to specialise purely in:
- Scar camouflage
- Stretch mark restoration
- Hypopigmentation correction
- Vitiligo (where appropriate)
- Skin restoration and MCA inkless needling
This pathway bridges that gap.
t allows eligible Level 3 professionals to step directly into regulated paramedical training – without detouring into cosmetic PMU.

This is not a weekend course.
It is a structured qualification that typically takes 8–12 months to complete, depending on case study acquisition and learner pace.

- A total of six in-person classroom training days (2-3 visits to training centre)
- Structured online learning moduless

The Combined Pathway (Level 4 + Level 5)
Unless you already hold the specific Qualifi CO401 and CO402 units (Level 4 units), you will complete the full combined pathway.
We do this because safe paramedical practice requires more than just technique. It requires clinical-level understanding of consultation, risk management and professional accountability – specifically within the context of paramedical tattooing.
While some practitioners may feel they already have knowledge in areas such as consultation, health and safety, or risk management, paramedical tattooing introduces additional layers of responsibility, assessment criteria and clinical considerations that are not always covered in other training routes.
We cannot assume that prior qualifications – even strong ones – have covered everything you will be formally assessed on within this regulated framework.
The combined pathway ensures:
- You meet the exact national assessment criteria
- You understand paramedical-specific contraindications and risk factors
- You are trained and assessed to the required standard
- You are not disadvantaged at assessment stage

What You Will Learn

1. Health, Safety & Clinical Working Practices
You will learn to:
- Implement advanced infection prevention and control

2. Professional Consultation & Treatment Planning
You will develop advanced consultation skills, including:
- Medical history review and contraindication management
- Psychological suitability assessment
- Managing client expectations

- Informed consent and cooling-off periods
- Data protection and documentation compliance
- Working appropriately with medical referrals
This is clinical consultation - not cosmetic upselling.
3. MCA (Inkless Needling) for Skin Restoration
You will be trained to safely perform:
- Multi-Trepannic Collagen Actuation (MCA) – AKA MCA inkless tattooing
- Scar relaxation techniques
- Skin rejuvenation for compromised tissue
- Depth control
- Correct machine parameters and needle selection
- Serum selection and application
- Monitoring skin response and managing adverse reactions
You will understand the difference between microneedling and MCA - and when each is appropriate.
4. Skin Tone Camouflage Tattooing
You will learn to:
- Assess scar type and classification
- Identify skin undertones and overtones
- Select and custom-blend pigments
- Apply advanced colour theory in practice
- Perform pointillism, layering and blending techniques
- Work safely on scars, stretch marks and hypopigmented areas
- Understand pigment behaviour in skin over time
- Manage healing outcomes and colour shifts
- Implement corrective strategies when required
This includes advanced pigment science and regulatory awareness.
5. Corrective & Revision Work
You will gain understanding of:
- Colour mismatch correction
- Pigment evolution and fading
- Managing undesirable outcomes ethically
- When to refuse treatment
- Professional reflection and CPD planning
6. Professional Reflection & Case Documentation
You will be required to:
- Build a structured case study portfolio
- Document before and after evidence
- Reflect on clinical decision-making

Entry Requirements
Applicants must be 18+ and hold one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy (or equivalent)
- Relevant Level 3 qualification allied to beauty therapy or the medical profession (including anatomy & physiology)
- Level 4 in Micropigmentation or equivalent
- Equivalent professional background (subject to eligibility review)
You must also hold:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Anaphylaxis management certification
- Level 4 in Micropigmentation or equivalent
- Equivalent professional background (subject to eligibility review)
Entry is subject to interview and approval.
Already Trained With Ink Illusions (CPD)?
If you have completed our CPD Paramedical Tattooing course, you may be eligible for a structured conversion route into the regulated qualification. This allows you to:
- Upgrade to regulated status
- Complete additional required assessments
- Submit case studies for review
- Achieve formal recognition
Eligibility is assessed individually.
But What If I’m a Complete Beginner?
If you do not yet meet the Level 3 entry criteria, we offer a comprehensive accredited CPD course in Paramedical Tattooing.
This provides a strong foundation in:
- Skin restoration techniques
- Camouflage tattooing
- Practical paramedical procedures
However:
Councils and insurers are becoming increasingly strict. Many now require regulated qualifications for licensing and insurance approval.
Before enrolling on any CPD course, you should confirm with your local council and insurer that it will be accepted in your area.
CPD graduates may later transition into the regulated pathway after:
- A minimum of 6 months independent experience
- Completion of case studies
- Demonstrating appropriate competency level
Progression is subject to review.
Cohort Intake & Training Structure
The first in-person classroom training days are scheduled to begin in June 2026, subject to cohort numbers being confirmed.
To maintain quality of training, practical supervision standards, and assessment integrity, classroom dates will only proceed once minimum cohort numbers are met.
Places for the first intake are limited.
Additional cohorts will be released throughout the year. However, subsequent cohort dates are only confirmed once the current intake reaches capacity. This ensures consistent quality, appropriate assessor allocation, and structured group learning.
