What is the Inkless method for treating stretch marks and scars?

The inkless method is one of the best solutions for improving the appearance of stretch marks and scars, with more and more people realising how effective the treatment can be.  It can also help treat lines and wrinkles.  Many people have never heard of this treatment and have no idea how effective it can be at treating scars, lines & stretch marks!

Inkless tattooing is also known as MCA Needling (multitreppanic collagen actuation), “Dry” tattooing, medical needling, and inkless needling.  The treatment used to be performed dry, using only tattoo needles.  However, due to legislation changes, this treatment now has to be carried out using a product, such as hyaluronic acid, or other serums suitable for needling.  Performing the treatment with a serum allows vitamins and healing ingredients to be deposited deeper in to the skin, helping the skin to heal better, and faster.

Many of our clients have spent a fortune on laser for stretch marks and scars with no luck, but then have an improvement after just one session of the inkless needling method.

Although the treatment utilises needles to essentially cause controlled trauma to the skin for it to repair and restructure, this is not the same as traditional microneedling.  Microneedling uses a different machine with larger cartridges containing many more needles.  The inkless stretch mark treatment uses tattoo machines and cartridges, with a smaller amount of needles which are able to penetrate the skin more easily, and target only the scar area which needs repairing.   MCA needling / the inkless method, is clinically proven to be far more effective at treating scars and stretch marks compared to microneedling.  MCA needling is a medical procedure which needs to be carefully performed by those qualified and insured to carry out this treatment.

What does MCA needling / inkless tattooing do?

Causing controlled trauma to scars and stretch marks essentially breaks down the scar tissue and initiates restructuring and repair. The needling causes collagen and elastin to rebuild.  In many skin types (especially darker skin types) needling stimulates natural repigmentation of stretch marks without the need for ink.  The inkless tattooing treatment smooths wrinkly and deeper stretch marks.  It aims to shrink and flatten stretch marks and scars to make them less noticeable.  With surgical and injury scars, the needling breaks down tough scar tissue to regenerate softer tissue and relax the scar.  Please note that it is not possible to completely get rid of stretch marks or scars, but it is possible to improve their appearance and make them less noticeable.

Can all scars be treated with MCA needling?

Keloid scars can’t be treated and anyone with a history of keloids will have to discuss treatment first with the practitioner.  Those who are prone to hyperpigmentation or Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation will also need to discuss risks before treatment and have a test area done first.  All other kinds of scars such as acne scars, surgical scars, injury scars, breast uplift scars, tummy tuck scars, and stretch marks can be treated.  Scars need to be at least 18 months old before they can be treated by dry tattooing.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone responds differently to treatment so it is not possible to predict any results or how many sessions.  Some clients have an amazing result after 1 session.  Others may need 3-8 depending on the severity of the scarring and the client’s skin response.  Some may not see any significant improvement.  We find that with darker skin types, stretch marks re-pigment naturally very well after one or two sessions of needling. If MCA needling doesn’t re-pigment the stretch marks or scars enough naturally, then it is possible to have ink tattooing, depending on the colour of the scars and your skin type.  MCA needling can be very effective and smoothing and softening scars after only just one session, although everyone is different so we can’t predict the result.
