We’re excited to announce the launch of two Ofqual-regulated qualifications in Paramedical Tattooing for Skin Restoration and Camouflage, coming APPROXIMATELY late February / March 2026. Ink Illusions has been collaborating with Qualifi over the last year to write this exception training programme.
This is the first regulated route created specifically for professionals who want to specialise in medical tattooing — without having to complete eyebrow, eyeliner, or lip tattooing training first.
Accredited by Qualifi
Regulated by Ofqual (RQF)
Nationally recognised and insurable
For practitioners who already hold qualifications in aesthetics or advanced skin treatments and want to step into paramedical tattooing.
Entry requirements:
A Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy, Advanced Skincare, or a relevant medical field (with anatomy & physiology)
OR a Level 4 qualification in Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation or Micropigmentation
A current BLS (Basic Life Support) and anaphylaxis management certificate
What you’ll learn: Health, safety, and hygiene for aesthetic procedures
Professional client consultation and treatment planning
MCA (inkless needling) for scar relaxation and rejuvenation
Skin tone camouflage tattooing for scars, stretch marks, and vitiligo
Advanced pigment science and colour theory
Corrective and revision work
Professional reflection and case documentation
Outcome: A regulated qualification recognised across the UK, with progress to Level 5.
Ideal for advanced skin professionals entering the medical tattooing field. By completing the Level 4 Certificate, you’ll also achieve the Level 5 Award automatically, as the Level 4 course includes the full Level 5 module within it.
For experienced micropigmentation or PMU artists ready to gain a regulated qualification and master advanced clinical techniques.
Entry requirements:
A Level 4 qualification in Micropigmentation or equivalent
A current BLS and anaphylaxis management certificate
What you’ll master: MCA (inkless needling) for scar relaxation and rejuvenation
Skin tone camouflage tattooing for scars, stretch marks, and vitiligo
Advanced pigment science and colour theory
Corrective and revision work
Professional reflection and case documentation
Ideal for PMU or medical tattooists wanting to elevate to clinical-level practice.
If you’re new to tattooing and don’t yet meet the entry criteria, don’t worry — we also offer an accredited CPD course in Paramedical Tattooing for Skin Restoration and Camouflage.
This beginner course is fully accredited and provides a strong practical foundation in skin camouflage and restoration tattooing.
However, councils and insurers are becoming increasingly strict, and many now require regulated qualifications for licensing and insurance approval.
Before enrolling, please check with your local council and insurance provider to confirm that a CPD-accredited, in-person course will be accepted for your area and cover requirements.
Note: CPD graduates will later be able to transition to the regulated courses after 6 months independent experience and case studies have been completed, at the discretion of whether the student is deemed to be at the correct level.
Until now, there’s been no regulated route for non-PMU practitioners to gain a recognised qualification in paramedical tattooing.
This new pathway finally bridges that gap — offering a professional, safe, and ethical route into medical tattooing, skin restoration, and camouflage techniques without detouring into PMU. Furthermore, the Level 4 qualification means those with relevant Level 3 qualifications (in Beauty Therapy as an example) can also enrol.
You’ll gain respected, Ofqual-backed credentials that elevate your professional credibility and open new clinical opportunities in the UK aesthetics industry.
The first training intakes will begin late January / early February 2026.
Spaces are limited for this first release.
Complete the form below to be notified as soon as enrolment opens.
Be one of the first in the UK to gain a regulated qualification in Paramedical Tattooing.
Elevate your career. Empower your clients. Lead the way in skin restoration
Ink Illusions has spent the past year collaborating with Qualifi to develop one of the UK’s first fully regulated qualifications in Paramedical Tattooing for Skin Restoration and Camouflage.
This is not CPD.
This is a nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated qualification pathway on the RQF.
And for most learners, it’s delivered as a combined Level 4 + Level 5 programme – because we do not assume prior knowledge.
Until now, the only regulated way into paramedical tattooing required you to complete Level 4 Micropigmentation first – meaning brows, lips, eyeliner.
Not everyone wants that.
Many professionals want to specialise purely in:
This pathway bridges that gap.
It allows eligible Level 3 professionals to step directly into regulated paramedical training – without detouring into cosmetic PMU.
This qualification is:
This is not a weekend course.
It is a structured qualification that typically takes 8–12 months to complete, depending on case study acquisition and learner pace.
You will be assessed through:
All learners must meet the same standard.
The programme includes:
This blended structure ensures you are supported both clinically and academically throughout the qualification process.
Unless you already hold the specific Qualifi CO401 and CO402 units (Level 4 units), you will complete the full combined pathway.
We do this because safe paramedical practice requires more than just technique. It requires clinical-level understanding of consultation, risk management and professional accountability – specifically within the context of paramedical tattooing.
While some practitioners may feel they already have knowledge in areas such as consultation, health and safety, or risk management, paramedical tattooing introduces additional layers of responsibility, assessment criteria and clinical considerations that are not always covered in other training routes.
We cannot assume that prior qualifications – even strong ones – have covered everything you will be formally assessed on within this regulated framework.
The combined pathway ensures:
There is no harm in refreshing and strengthening knowledge – particularly when the goal is to ensure every learner is fully prepared and positioned to pass successfully.
Our priority is not just to train you.
It is to ensure you qualify.
This programme develops both the clinical foundation and advanced technical skills required for safe paramedical practice.
You will learn to:
Safe paramedical practice begins here.
You will develop advanced consultation skills, including:
This is clinical consultation – not cosmetic upselling.
You will be trained to safely perform:
You will understand the difference between microneedling and MCA – and when each is appropriate.
You will learn to:
This includes advanced pigment science and regulatory awareness.
You will gain understanding of:
You will be required to:
This ensures you leave not just trained – but qualified.
The overall UK aesthetics industry continues to grow strongly, with consumer demand rising year after year. In 2024 alone, nearly 8 million people in the UK had an aesthetic treatment – and far more are considering treatments within the next year.
This trend reflects a wider shift in client behaviour. People are no longer just seeking cosmetic enhancement – they are looking for corrective and restorative outcomes, especially in areas where makeup, skincare and standard treatments fall short.
Scars. Stretch marks. Hypopigmentation. Skin damage.
These are not trend-driven concerns. They are long-term confidence issues.
Stretch marks and scars are very common across populations:
This means a huge client base exists for serious paramedical practitioners.
The demand is not small. It is widespread.
Paramedical tattooing – including camouflage for scars and stretch marks – is increasingly recognised as more than just an aesthetic add-on.
Practitioners who specialise in this area and build a strong reputation can create highly profitable businesses focused on skin restoration results.
While income varies depending on location and strategy, owning a niche skill set with high demand positions you differently in the market – and allows you to command pricing that reflects advanced expertise.
The global stretch mark treatment market alone is valued in the billions and continues to grow steadily year on year – indicating sustained demand for solutions that improve skin appearance and confidence.
Paramedical tattooing offers a non-invasive, long-lasting option that many clients prefer over creams, lasers or temporary cosmetic solutions – especially when emotional confidence is part of the goal.
Demand for restorative skin outcomes is strong.
Scar and stretch mark prevalence is widespread.
Supply of highly trained paramedical practitioners remains limited.
The aesthetic market overall continues to grow.
That means:
Applicants must be 18+ and hold one of the following:
You must also hold:
Entry is subject to interview and approval.
If you have completed our CPD Paramedical Tattooing course, you may be eligible for a structured conversion route into the regulated qualification.
This allows you to:
Eligibility is assessed individually.
If you do not yet meet the Level 3 entry criteria, we offer a comprehensive accredited CPD course in Paramedical Tattooing.
This provides a strong foundation in:
However:
Councils and insurers are becoming increasingly strict. Many now require regulated qualifications for licensing and insurance approval.
Before enrolling on any CPD course, you should confirm with your local council and insurer that it will be accepted in your area.
CPD graduates may later transition into the regulated pathway after:
Progression is subject to review.
We are provisionally opening our first regulated cohort to begin the online learning phase in April 2026.
The first in-person classroom training days are scheduled to begin in May or June 2026, subject to cohort numbers being confirmed.
To maintain quality of training, practical supervision standards, and assessment integrity, classroom dates will only proceed once minimum cohort numbers are met. We do not deliver regulated training on a one-to-one or two-person basis, as peer learning, case discussion and structured assessment form an essential part of the qualification experience.
Places for the first intake are limited.
Additional cohorts will be released throughout the year. However, subsequent cohort dates are only confirmed once the current intake reaches capacity. This ensures consistent quality, appropriate assessor allocation, and structured group learning.
If you are considering joining the first cohort, we strongly recommend registering your interest early to avoid waiting for the next release.
